Have you ever bought organic wine?
Today the consumption of organic wine has increased, with + 14.1% over the period from 2012 to 2017. We have 2.21 million hectoliters of French organic wine put on the market in 2017, 57% of which is consumed on French territory. France is the third largest producer of organic wines in the world. Despite the difficulty in achieving organic certifications, conversions are on track.
According to predictions, organic wine sales should almost double by 2022. Despite a price that is 33% higher on average than a traditional wine, consumers are willing to pay more for a bottle of organic wine.
Indeed, more and more consumers are attracted by organic products. Wine lovers too, are becoming sensitive to the environment and to their health. For our part, at Château Virant, we have chosen the High Environmental Value label because it certifies that our entire exploitation respects the environment.
It is a wine that is appreciated by consumers. Indeed, when tasted, an organic wine will express a more savory and digestible taste. The entrance in mouth will not be built on alcohol but on the density of flavors. An organic red wine will be more acidic because the plant is not saturated with fertilizer. In fact, it will be shorter in alcohol volume and less sweet, so it will leave room for malic acid. Organic wines have a more pronounced mineral content; this is due to the nature of the soil and the residues present in the water when it evaporates.
